A new chapter for dining at Middelfart’s historic harbour, Gl. Havn
By the water at the historic harbour Gl. Havn in Middelfart, Toldbodvinhus has stood for more than 140 years. The building has watched ships arrive and leave, seasons change, and the town grow around it. After a few quiet decades, Toldbodvinhus has been carefully restored and it is soon reopening its doors to welcome guests.
Step inside and feel the layers of history wrapped in a new life.

Dishes that follow the season
Our kitchen draws on coastal flavours, with fresh fish, local produce, and classic techniques given a modern touch. We aim to offer something for everyone, whether you are drawn to seafood, a great cut, or a vegetable-led dish.
The menu changes as nature does, always built around what is at its best right now. Everything is prepared from scratch, with a focus on quality, balance, and a love for simple dishes done well.

More than 140 years by the harbour
Toldbodvinhus was built as a harbour inn in 1885 and became a popular meeting place at the harbour.
Over the years, the premises hosted countless gatherings for both locals and travellers who stopped at the Old Harbour — right up until 2007. When the place closed, the building stood empty for 16 years, while wind and weather left a clear mark on the rooms that once buzzed with life.
Today, after three years of dedicated work and the efforts of many skilled craftsmen, Toldbodvinhus has been brought back to life by Torben Østergaard-Nielsen, who chose to preserve the site as part of Middelfart’s Old Harbour rather than let it disappear.
The restoration has recreated the iconic façade, the interior has been renewed, and the setting can once again be filled with conversations, celebrations, and new memories.
